QUOTE FOR THE DAY

"Mountains inspire awe in any human person who has a soul. They remind us of our frailty, our unimportance, of the briefness of our span upon this earth. They touch the heavens, and sail serenely at an altitude beyond even the imaginings of a mere mortal." - Elizabeth Aston

CINDI STAIGER: FURNACE CREEK 508 AND ULTRACYCLING LEGEND SEEKS JOB IN TECHNICAL AND DESKTOP SUPPORT

Cindi is a wonderful supporter of our events, working every year until the last rider crosses the line at Furnace Creek 508. As such, we dedicated the race to her last year and she deserved it! Cindi has also competed in, and won, the race a few times over the past 20+ years and she also won a transcontinental race back in 1988. She is a tireless legend in ultracycling, on and off the bike, and she is also a first-rate computer jockey who is looking for a new IT job. She lives in the Bay Area, but is willing to relocate. I know we would hire her if we had an opening. Perhaps someone out there in the world of AdventureCORPS needs a quality person on their staff? Here is her resumé and here is another version.

And here is a short statement from Cindi:

I'm looking for a new job opportunity. I have experience in the area of Information Technology. My recent position was with a mortgage banking firm - enough said there - it ended.

I have a wide-ranging 10+ year history in IT and have always been considered a reliable and responsible individual with a high resolution rate with a variety of issues that arise.

I live in San Jose, CA but would definitely be very interested in moving to the Paso Robles/San Luis Obispo, CA area or elsewhere for a good opportunity!

For questions or a copy of my full resume email me at: ultracindi "at" juno.com.

Any help or leads greatly appreciated - Thanks!

- Cindi Staiger

BICYCLE COMMUTING GROWS BIGGER
As people struggle with high gasoline prices and try to reduce their carbon footprint, we're reading and hearing a lot about a renewed boom in bicycling. In the case of media coverage, consider this video clip of an episode from the July 27 "CBS Sunday Morning" about the joys of bicycling, as well as some of the potential pitfalls.

THIS 13-YEAR-OLD CAN WRITE (AND RIDE!)
Henri Boulanger, a thirteen-year-old from Mountain View, California, wrote: "The whir of the oiled metal is pleasing to the ears. The click of the derailleurs going from one ring to the next is like the sound of a victory won. Yes, many people do not realize or respect their bikes for what they really are."
