Happy New Year to all!!!

2008 has been an eventful year for photography. We saw a lot of improvements in technology, improvements which will help the photographers immensly. We saw the arrival of DROBO2 an upgraded and improved version of the ever so popular original DROBO providing robust NAS for photographers, Lenovo announced the arrival of W700, a windows based laptop designed specially for photographers and design professionals. With regards to cameras, we saw the introduction of HD video in still cameras and of course even higher megapixels in the top end DSLRs.

2008 was the year when 8020, the owners of JPG Magazine annouced the closure of the publication (there are reports of some potential buyers, though nothing has been confirmed). In 2008 we saw Flickr parterning with Getty to sell stock photography and it was in 2008 that we saw the launch of Colours Magazine.

I started Colours Magazine because I loved photography and photos and wanted to create a place where I could see and share great photos and also connect with like minded people. I wanted to promote photos and the photographers taking those photos. Having never done anything like this before, it sure has been a huge learning curve for me, and I would really like to thank all of our readers and subscribers who have gone with me through the changes and have provided valuable feedback and input throughout the whole process, your help is very much appreciated, Colours Magazine, where it is today, it wouldn’t have been without your help and support.

Since it’s start Colours Magazine has been going through a process of constant change, I am always looking for ways to improve things, to produce content which engages the readers and interacts with them. I have always wanted the content on Colours Magazine to remain focused on the ‘art’ and not as much on the ‘equipment’. The readers, you, are the best judge of how successful I have been.

In the spirit of change for improvement there are a few things planned, some I have already implemented and other shall be hopefully introduced soon. Of those which are implemented are as follows:

1. Scrapping of Colours Magazine blog, which never got updated totally my fault, however I am replacing it with this semi-formal editorial. This section will serve as part blog and part editorial. Sort of an informal way for me to communicate with the readers of Colours Magazine.

2. Skirbit Widget. With the aim of gathering reader feedback, I have installed a skirbit widget on the siderbar. You can use that to leave me comments on what stories you would like to read about in Colours Magazine. So why not head over and leave a comment, you don’t even have to create an account or login and you can also leave anonymous comments.

3. If I can get it to work, I have installed a plugin where readers can rate different stories that they read. My prime objective is to gather feedback and learn as to what sort of content is preferred by the readers of Colours Magazine and I would appreciate any and all feedback.

This was it for now, and as mentioned before please do let me know what you think generally of Colours Magazine, are you happy with the current format, what changes would you like to see and what sort of articles would you prefer to read more? Also if you would like to contribute content to Colours Magazine then please do get in touch.

As always this is your magazine, and you decide what you want to see in it.

Till next time,
Zeeshan Kazmi
