Well, it's after noon on Christmas Eve, and the department is empty, all except for me and the fill-in janitor.
I don't really have all that much to do today. I just exposed my northern and continue to get confusing results, but eh, whatever. I'm finding it hard to care. The biggest trouble is that I should come in tomorrow to take care of them, but I don't think I'll be able to make myself.
Next week, though, I should be able to crank stuff out. I've got at least 3 PCR-based things to do, and with four labmates and one thermocycler, it can get pretty tricky (mostly because none of us are industrious enough to set up a PCR at 9am).
We are going back South, but not until New Year's Day. We like to be
at home (meaning Boston) for Christmas, and DH's
new job requires him to work through Dec 31 because of a gov't-mandated deadline. This also means that I should be able to work late nights without feeling the least bit guilty (I only usually feel slightly guilty).

For Christmas this year, DH asked for a
laptop (and got it, though that's clearly more than we normally spend on each other for Christmas). This means that I didn't have to buy him any presents. I had already purchased, though, the DVD of a way cool History Channel show called
Jurassic Fight Club. In the one episode I've seen, they basically pick two dinosaurs that lived at the same time and see what fights between them would be like. And since I know nothing about dinosaurs and whether this stuff is plausible, it's kinda fun.
My sister also takes care of the majority of the purchasing for the rest of my family, since I'd have to tote presents on a plane*. So basically, I've bought nothing this year. I'm kinda sad about that 'cause I love the hustle and bustle of the malls when everyone's shopping, and I enjoy just meandering about looking at stuff. We will get to do some of that next week because we still need to buy for DH's parents/grandparents but aren't sure what to get. But everyone out shopping will just be cranky and impatient at that point.
I've asked for a lot because no one can be bothered to think of present ideas on their own, evidently. (No, I'm not bitter, really.) Anyway, what I should come home with**:

- a digital camera (my parents)
- a Wii (DH's parents)
- winter hats (Robby's little brother)
- belts (an aunt, I think)
- perfume (my little sister)

*I do, of course, partcipate in the planning process. And the interwebs greatly assist these type of interactions.
**You can see that I'm learning to ask for what I want. Hopefully I will avoid coming home with useless Nativity scenes and gift cards to restaurants that aren't around here this year.
