I continually wrestle with the question: "What is my blog's purpose?" I usually revisit it in some depth each subsequent weekend, looking at the common factors — constants — which grow but don't stray. Specific interests like "social media" come and go, but at the heart of it is creativity. No matter what I'm doing, there's a common theme of resourcefulness and being artistic across media. And I think it helps to put this out there, because maybe you've felt the same way. Or will.
I'm delighted I've acquired an affordable used copy of The Fat Man's book on game audio (and life, and other whimsicalities). Previously, I only saw it marked up for US$150+; I've gotten into the first 16 or so pages, and there's something so… personable about his style, which contains mass heapings of self-awareness. The book reads like a meal at every page. And boy is it about connecting the creativity.
I originally coined my catchphrase, "I amplify your awesome" because I noticed a pattern in my life of being in proximity with other people and making them better. The Fat Man, George Sanger, mentions that by teaching someone to fish, you're teaching them to teach someone else to fish. How's that for life philosophy?
Much of my core is about being able to distinguish what's worthwhile from the slop (another catchphrase: "Chop the slop!") because all that noise gets in the way of your energy. And to a more specific degree, I place high importance on shunning what is socially common but useless.
Everywhere I go — from tech support desks to gas stations — I look for creativity. And you can't be creative without having personality. I came across a gas pump who realized this:
WE'VE GOT IT RIGHT INSIDE, OH THANK HEAVEN.
^ I googled for that, and only 1 match came up. Ain't that wild?
But I did take notice. And that's what matters.
