Rep. Alan Grayson (D - FL) is so damned short-sighted! How long has this guy been a Dem bowl floater (or politician if you prefer?) This man doesn't think big enough! His ideas aren't bold enough! His bill is not historic enough! This is the age of Obama and half-hearted attempts at the expansion of government control over individuals and businesses simply do not measure up. At least his staff is attempting to stroke Rep. Grayson's ego by using Obama adjectives to describe his new proposal on his web-site:
(Washington, DC) – In a bold and historic move to help rejuvenate the American economy, Congressman Alan Grayson introduced the Paid Vacation Act of 2009 today. The bill will dramatically improve productivity at American companies and provide a much-needed spark for the U.S. travel and tourism industries.
"Bold" and "historic" are words that have been given plenty of air time in recent months as our nation has begun the grim process of Obamamorphosis (the process of changing from a free nation into one nation under the thumb of the all powerful government, all in the name of fairness and helping people of course.) Consistency is apparent as Grayson's "bold and historic move" is in keeping with "Big Brother" Barry's like-described moves in that it is an unnecessary intrusion of government into a place it does not belong.
Politico has the story of the proposed federal government intrusion into the private sector (an alarming trend.)
I think Goofy must have "hit him" as he stood "in the middle of Disney World." If he didn't, he should have. Much like many of "Big Brother" Barry's "bold and historic" governmental intrusions, this one is supposedly aimed at stimulating the economy. The idea being that happy workers will be more productive and might travel during the mandated vacation. Grayson said "“there’s a reason why Disney World is the happiest place on Earth: The people who go there are on vacation.”
What the Hell is wrong with the people that elect these fools? The federal government is not responsible for the happiness of citizens. The federal government has no business mandating paid vacation, except for federal agencies, of which there are way too many. If a person wants a job with paid vacation, it is the individual's responsibility to find one that offers paid vacation or negotiate paid vacation as part of the employment terms!
What next Rep. Barren of Gray Matter? Will you introduce an act that requires employers to provide bottled water to employees since water is a physical need we all share? Will employers be required to provide toilet tissue of a certain level of softness such that employees will have happy hinies and therefore be more productive? If this passes, will your party's enviro-nazi base forgive you? Would you mandate that every employer provide transportation for employees, because arriving at work is a necessary component of being productive?
Proposals such as these sound harmless or perhaps like good ideas given only superficial scrutiny. They are feel good fodder for the inattentive voter (you know, the kind that elected Barack Obama.) Once the light of reason is shined on these acts, one can see the cracks forming in our liberty.
Ooh! Ooh! Here's a great way for you "moderate" Republicans to win the Dem-minded voter you seem to covet. Ready for it? One of you "moderates" like maybe Rep. Mark Kirk (R - IL) should propose an amendment to this intrusive act which would require taxpayer funding of these mandated paid vacations! Or at the very least you could amend it to include paid vacation for welfare recipients and illegal aliens in an effort at inclusiveness.
